Survey after survey show that the public view climate change as an important future issue. The Eurobarometer from 2014 shows that 9 out of 10 Europeans view the climate issue as serious. Almost everyone agrees that reduced climate impact is an important target. At the same time, some companies are asking how companies can work with the climate issue and in which way they can take responsibility for the climate.

It pays off

Five reasons why active climate efforts are beneficial for companies:

  1. More and more customers are demanding that companies reduce their climate impact.
  2. Companies that reduce their climate impact also reduce their costs, e.g. through energy efficiency improvements and modified travel habits.
  3. Companies that bring the climate issue into their business strategy strengthen their brand and gain competitive advantages.
  4. Potential employees are increasingly considering companies’ climate responsibility when considering which employers they want to work for.
  5. Active climate efforts can create new business areas and thereby new customer groups.

Research is Clear

During 2013-2014, the UN’s climate change panel the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) produced their fifth assessment report, an extensive scientific summary of the status of climate change. The first report concerns the scientific perspective of climate change, the second report deals with impact, adaptation and vulnerability, and the third report covers mitigation of climate change. The reports from the IPCC can be found below.
